Biography of Jhane Barnes

Jhane Barnes was born on March 4, 1954, in Phoenix, USA. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and studied there until 1975. Two years later, Barnes founded her own company, Jhane Barnes Ltd., and started producing menswear collections. In 1979, she launched a women's clothing line.

Award-Winning Designs

In 1980, Jhane Barnes received her first professional award, the "Coty American Fashion Critics award," for her design in menswear. In 1981, she was recognized as an Outstanding Menswear Designer by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), a distinction confirmed by the "Cutty Sark Outstanding Designer award" in 1982. Barnes continued to receive accolades, including the "Coty Return Menswear award" and an award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1984.

Expansion into Textiles and Accessories

In 1989, Barnes expanded her products to include a line of ties and fabrics of her own production. Her textile collection earned her the prestigious Golden prize from the American Association of Industrial Designers in 1990. The following year, she developed and presented her first shoe collection, which earned her the "Woolmark award."

Expansion into Furniture and Homeware

In 1995, Barnes collaborated with Bernhardt to design a furniture collection. Her designs were recognized with the "Best of NeoCon award" in both 1995 and 1996. During this time, she also received the "Good Design award" for her furniture designs and the "Neckwear Achievement award" from the Neckwear Association of America for her tie designs.

In 1998, Jhane Barnes designed the uniforms for the Orlando Magic basketball team and was awarded the "DuPont Antron Product Innovation award" and another "Best of NeoCon award." The following year, she won the "Gold award" for textile design and the "Most Innovative award." In 2000, she further received the "Chicago Anthaneum Good Design award" and another "Best of NeoCon award."

Jhane Barnes Textiles

In addition to her fashion and furniture designs, Barnes established a partnership with a textile company to create the "Jhane Barnes Textiles" line. The collection featured home textiles and was launched three years after signing the contract.
