Early Life and Career
Jiří Hudler, a Czech ice hockey player, was born and raised in Vsetín, Czechoslovakia, where he began his hockey career with HC Vsetín.
National Hockey League Draft
In 2002, Hudler was drafted 58th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft.
Detroit Red Wings
On December 16, 2003, Hudler made his NHL debut with the Red Wings. However, he initially struggled to establish himself in the team and spent several years playing for their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
AHL Success and NHL Breakthrough
During the 2005-06 season, Hudler flourished in the AHL, setting the Griffins' single-season record for assists (60) and amassing 96 points. His impressive performance earned him another chance at the NHL level, where he appeared in four games.
The following season, 2006-07, Hudler played 76 games with the Red Wings, establishing himself as a reliable offensive force. He was named the team's Rookie of the Year for his contributions.
Stanley Cup Triumph
In 2008, Hudler played a pivotal role in the Red Wings' Stanley Cup victory, scoring five goals and tallying nine assists in the playoffs.
KHL Transfer and NHL Return
After the 2008-09 season, Hudler became a restricted free agent and signed a lucrative contract with HC Dynamo Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). His transfer was one of the most significant player moves in KHL history.
In 2012, Hudler returned to the NHL, signing a four-year, $16 million contract with the Calgary Flames.
Trade and Contract Extensions
In 2016, Hudler was traded to the Florida Panthers and subsequently signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Dallas Stars.
