Early Life and Education
Jiří Paroubek was born on August 21, 1952, in Olomouc, Northern Moravia, Czechoslovakia. He graduated from the University of Economics in Prague in 1976 with a degree in economics.
Career in Business and Politics
After graduating, Paroubek worked as an economist and held management positions in state-owned industrial enterprises until 1990. From 1991 to 1998, he ventured into business, providing consulting services to small and medium-sized enterprises.
In 1998, Paroubek was elected Deputy Mayor of Prague, overseeing the financial and economic affairs of the Czech capital. He has been a member of the Czech Social Democratic Party since its founding in 1990 and held leadership roles within the party's Prague organization and central apparatus.
Prime Ministership
In 2005, Paroubek became Prime Minister of the Czech Republic following the resignation of Stanislav Gross amid allegations of tax evasion. Paroubek served as Prime Minister until 2006.
Personal Life
Paroubek is married and has a son. He speaks English and German and studied Russian in high school and university, but considers himself not proficient in the language.
