Joan Price: Dancing Teacher, Writer, and Speaker
Joan Price is a former dance teacher who has become an expert on sex in older age. She is a writer, motivational speaker, and the founder of the project NakedAtOurAge. Joan's story is reminiscent of a "Cinderella" tale for seniors. She spent most of her life being single and eventually accepted her fate as a "professional single." However, everything changed when Robert Rice, a 64-year-old man, walked into her fitness studio. Joan knew right away that he was the one for her. At the time, Joan was 57 years old. Robert became a regular and dedicated student in her class, and over time, Joan realized that her feelings for him were likely mutual. To confirm this, she mustered up all her courage and wrote him a letter confessing her love and proposing that they take their relationship to the next level. Initially hesitant, Robert quickly changed his mind, and soon Joan and her new boyfriend became a couple.
A Life-Changing Romance
Their romance was incredibly passionate, and Joan admitted that it was the most emotionally intense relationship of her life. However, the most significant discovery for Joan was that sex, which she had not expected to be satisfying in her older age, turned out to be not only just as good as in her younger years but even more emotionally fulfilling. This realization made Joan pay closer attention to her own experiences, and over time, it changed her entire life.
Becoming an Advocate
In her quest to find literature on the subject of sex in older age, Joan was surprised to find that the topic was mostly overlooked, with very little existing literature on the subject. This motivated her to openly discuss and address the topic of senior sex, including fears, problems, and solutions. She took it upon herself to write about it and, at the age of 61, published her book "Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk about Sex After Sixty" in 2006. The response from readers was overwhelming, with Joan receiving countless letters of gratitude and requests for advice. While some reacted with disgust towards the topic, Joan was convinced that as long as people are alive, they will continue to desire sex, making her work necessary.
An Expert in Senior Sex
Over time, Joan spent more and more time engaging with readers and answering their questions. She became a true expert in the field of "sex for those over…" Interestingly, she and Robert got married in the same year her first book was published. Unfortunately, their time together was short-lived, as Robert passed away after just two years of marriage. Before he died, he asked Joan not to give up her work. In 2011, Joan published another book titled "Naked at Our Age: Talking Out Loud about Senior Sex."
A Continuing Mission
Today, Joan Price continues to lead her fitness classes and provides consultations on the topic of senior sex. While some may dismiss Joan Price's idea of openly discussing sex among older adults, many have appreciated her boldness. Among her numerous awards, Joan Price has earned the playful title of Senior Sexpert.
