Early Career and National Success

Joaquín Botero, a renowned Bolivian striker, rose to prominence during his time with Club Bolívar. From 2002 to 2006, he amassed an impressive 133 goals in 167 matches, becoming the club's second-highest scorer. His prolificacy earned him the title of world's top goalscorer in national championships in 2002.

International Recognition

Botero made his national team debut in 1999. His remarkable contribution to the Bolivian national squad culminated in 20 goals, surpassing Victor Ugarte's long-standing record of 19 goals. On April 1, 2009, Botero etched his name in history by scoring a hat-trick in Bolivia's 6-1 victory over Argentina during the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Mexican Adventure and Return Home

After a successful spell with Bolívar, Botero ventured to Mexico to join UNAM Pumas in 2006. However, his time there was not as fruitful. In 2008, he returned to Bolivia and contributed another 11 goals to Bolívar's scoreline in 25 matches.

Later Career

Since 2009, Botero has plied his trade in Mexico's second-tier league, Primera A, with UAAT Correcaminos. In 2011, he returned to his homeland and joined San José de Oruro.
