Early Life
Joseph Albert List was born in Whitman, Massachusetts, on April 6, 1982. His comedy career began in Boston, Massachusetts, in 2000, shortly after graduating high school.
Standup Comedy
List has released two standup comedy albums: "So Far No Good" (2013) and "Are You Mad at Me?" (2016). He has performed on "Conan" and "The Late Show with David Letterman." In 2015, he became a finalist on NBC's "Last Comic Standing" and recorded a half-hour comedy special for Comedy Central.
Podcasting
Since 2013, List has co-hosted the weekly podcast "Tuesdays with Stories" with fellow comedian Mark Normand. He has also hosted "Mindful Metal Jacket" and "Joe and Raanan Talk Movies" with comedian Raanan Hershberg. He is a regular guest on Robert Kelly's "You Know What Dude" podcast.
Tours and Comedy Cellar
List toured with Louis C.K. in 2016 in the US and Europe, including three shows at Madison Square Garden. He is a regular at the Comedy Cellar in New York City.
Netflix and YouTube Specials
In 2018, List released a special for Netflix titled "The Standups." His next special, "I Hate Myself," was self-produced and premiered on Comedy Central's YouTube channel in August 2020. In April 2022, he released an hour-long comedy special on his YouTube channel called "This Year's Material."
Film
In 2022, List co-wrote (with Louis C.K.) and starred in the comedy-drama film "Fourth of July," directed and produced by Louis C.K.
Personal Life
List is a recovering alcoholic and has been sober since 2012. In 2017, List married Sara Tolmach, a comedian from Kingwood, Texas. They competed against each other on an episode of "Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle."
