Early Career in Politics

Trippi began his political career in San Jose, where he worked on successful local campaigns in the mid-1970s. In 1979, he joined the presidential campaign of Senator Edward Kennedy.

National Campaigns

In 1981, Trippi became Deputy Campaign Manager for the re-election campaign of Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley. He then joined Walter Mondale's 1983 presidential campaign, serving as the Maine campaign chairman and later the Iowa field director. After Mondale's victory in Iowa, Trippi was promoted to Pennsylvania State Director.

In 1985, Trippi became Deputy Director for Senator Edward Kennedy's Democratic Majority Fund, a political action committee. He later became Vice President of the media group Caddell, Doak, and Schram.

Presidential Campaign Scandals and Personnel Management

In 1987, Trippi joined Gary Hart's presidential campaign as Deputy Campaign Manager. After Hart's withdrawal from the race amidst a personal scandal, Trippi oversaw personnel for Hart's wife, Lee Hart. He later worked for Dick Gephardt in the 1988 presidential campaign.

Hiatus from Politics

Disillusioned with politics, Trippi took a break from major campaigns in the 1990s and early 2000s. He worked as a media consultant for small-scale campaigns and became a corporate consultant in Silicon Valley.
