Joe Wright is an English film director, best known for his films "Pride & Prejudice," "Atonement," "Hanna," and the recent adaptation of "Anna Karenina." He was born in London and grew up in a family that ran the Little Angel Theatre, a puppet theater in the city. From a young age, Wright was drawn to various forms of art, with a particular interest in painting.

Wright began making films at a relatively early age, using a Super 8 camera. He also honed his acting skills in a local drama group. Due to his dyslexia, he was unable to finish school and instead started working at his family's puppet theater. He later studied theater at Anna Scher's Theatre School. He pursued his formal education at Camberwell College of Arts and Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, where he received his diploma.

During his final year of college, Wright received a scholarship to create a short film for the BBC, which was warmly received and earned him several awards.
