Johan Botha, an Austrian tenor originally from South Africa, is one of the greatest opera singers in the world with a truly unique dramatic tenor voice. He was born on August 19, 1965, in South Africa. Botha studied vocal arts in Pretoria and made his first stage appearance in 1989, performing the role of Max in Carl Maria von Weber's opera "Der Freischütz" at the State Theater Roodeport.

In 1990, Botha traveled to Europe, and in 1993, he gained international recognition for his portrayal of Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton, a US Navy lieutenant, in Giacomo Puccini's opera "Madama Butterfly" at the Opera Bastille in Paris. Following this significant success, Botha quickly became a sought-after performer, making important debuts on opera stages worldwide.

In 2003, as an Austrian citizen since 1998, Johan Botha was honored with the title of "Österreichischer Kammersänger" (Austrian Chamber Singer) by the Vienna State Opera, becoming the youngest opera performer to receive this title.
