Johannes Linstead: Canadian Musician and Spiritualist
Johannes Linstead, a Canadian musician, guitarist, and instrumentalist, is well-known for his musical works. He is also revered as a highly spiritual individual. Linstead has traveled extensively around the world, experiencing a variety of different cultures. In addition, he has become a professional Kundalini yoga instructor.
Early Years and Musical Journey
Johannes Linstead, born in Canada, began learning to play the guitar at the age of 8. It was a musical instrument that he received as a birthday gift. Over time, Linstead's guitar skills greatly improved. Concentrating on classical guitar, Johannes became familiar with a wide range of styles and genres.
As a teenager, Linstead fully immersed himself in the world of music, particularly rock, flamenco, and jazz. Influenced by renowned guitarists such as Fernando Sor, Francisco Tárrega, Mauro Giuliani, Randy Rhoads, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jorge Strunz, Sabicas, Paco de Lucía, Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Angel Romero, Johannes honed his unique guitar playing style.
Expanding Horizons
In addition to his musical pursuits, Johannes Linstead traveled extensively, visiting countries such as India, Bahrain, Spain, Mexico, Cuba, and many more. The local music styles and genres he encountered greatly influenced his own musical style.
Linstead's interest in spiritual development led him to study various disciplines. He practiced Kung Fu under Jopet Laraya and delved into the practice of Qi Gong. Seeking even greater spiritual growth, Johannes began studying Kundalini yoga and became a certified instructor in 2001. This endeavor earned him the nickname "Seva Singh," which later evolved into his musician pseudonym, "Sevara." "Seva" translates to "devotional service," while "Ra" was an allusion to the sun.
Teaching Yoga and Philanthropic Work
Despite his busy schedule, Johannes Linstead continues to teach yoga, balancing his musical career with his passion for spiritual development. In 2006, he composed the song "Journey To Alcazaba," which was featured on the "Artists for Charity - Guitarists 4 the Kids" album. The project, released by Slang Productions and in collaboration with World Vision Canada, aimed to help underprivileged children worldwide.
In the winter of 2006, Johannes created his own spiritual enlightenment project called "Divine Earth." Project members collected information about spiritual practices, health, and global politics in a special online community. In line with the project's philosophy, creating a healthy and happy world is only possible by understanding the factors that hinder each individual's inner peace.
Award-Winning Career
In 2010, Johannes Linstead was honored with the title of "World Artist of the Year" at The Ontario Music Awards. He also received ZMR awards for "Best World Album" and "Best Instrumental Acoustic Album" and signed an important contract with Yamaha Corporation of America. This list of awards is by no means exhaustive, as Linstead continues to be recognized with prestigious honors to this day.
