Jonathan Davis: Lead Vocalist of Korn
Jonathan Davis is an American musician best known as the lead vocalist of the multi-platinum nu-metal band Korn. Born and raised in Bakersfield, California, Davis began his musical journey at a young age.
Musical Roots
From the age of five, Davis took up drums and later expanded his musical repertoire to include piano, bagpipes, and other instruments. As the lead vocalist for Korn, he occasionally incorporates the drum and bagpipes into his performances. Davis also contributes to the songwriting process, utilizing various instruments, including guitar and drums.
Joining Korn
Davis joined Korn in 1993 after a serendipitous encounter. James "Munky" Shaffer and Brian "Head" Welch were captivated by Davis's performance with his band, Sexart. Despite initial reservations about Davis's vocals, they invited him to join their group, then known as L.A.P.D.
Early Influences
Davis's musical influences include rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar" and bands like Duran Duran and The Cure. His childhood admiration for bagpipes sparked his interest in the instrument.
Personal Life
Davis has had two marriages. In 1998, he wed his high school sweetheart, Renee Perez. They welcomed a son, Nathan Hausman Davis, but divorced in 2001. In 2004, Davis married Deven Davis, a former pornographic actress. They have three sons together: Pirate Hausman Davis, Zeppelin Hausman Davis, and Exodus. Davis has refrained from alcohol and drugs since August 22, 1998.
Korn's Success
Korn's debut album, released in 1994, set the stage for their rise to fame. They have since released ten studio albums, achieving platinum status for all but their self-titled album.
Personal Struggles
Davis has faced personal adversity, including being a victim of childhood sexual abuse. His song "Daddy" explores this trauma and his parents' disbelief. He also suffered from asthma as a child, almost losing his life to a severe attack at age five.
Distinctive Style
Davis is known for his elaborate microphone stand, designed by Swiss artist H.R. Giger.
