Jonathan Kelsey: A Biography of a Shoe Designer

Jonathan Kelsey is a renowned shoe designer known for his high-heeled, lacquered, and metal-adorned creations. He believes that his shoes are meant for women who know how to enjoy life, are energetic, intelligent, and want to look sexy. According to him, his shoes stand out in a wardrobe filled with Lanvin, Marni, and Miu Miu because they are unlike anything else.

The Rise to Stardom

Kelsey's shoe designs, featuring high heels, pointed toes, and a 1970s style, quickly gained popularity among celebrities and made their way into their wardrobes. The anticipation for his new collection has been building up in the fashion world for the past four months, with promises of unseen color schemes, exotic materials, and conical heels measuring no less than 11 centimeters. As soon as he finished his latest pair, boutiques on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean began competing to be the first to buy and sell his entire collection at high prices. He was even dubbed the "new Christian Louboutin" in London, and loyal customers at Harvey Nichols immediately lined up to get their hands on his designs.

Standing Out from the Crowd

What makes Jonathan Kelsey's shoes so desirable? While he manufactures his shoes at the same factory as Chloe and Marc Jacobs, his designs are distinctly different from other well-known brands. With five years of experience working at Jimmy Choo and collaborations with Cacharel, Strenesse, Chapurin, and Gina, Kelsey has developed his own signature style. His design idols are shoe designers Mod Frison and Charles Jourdan, and their ideas from the 1970s and 1980s can be seen in Kelsey's bold combinations of materials and extravagant and audacious luxury.

A Passion for Shoes

Kelsey's desire to stand out and his artistic nature are ingrained in him. His cousin, Stuart Vevers, the creative director of Mulberry, is his contemporary. They studied together in school and then attended college together in northern England. After completing his education at the London College of Fashion's Central St. Martins, Kelsey started working at the theatrical workshop of Angels & Berman, where thousands of pairs of shoes were found everywhere. However, it took some time for him to develop a passion for shoes and boots. He later realized that shoes, more than anything else, give a costume its character and that they are the icing on the cake - the sweetest part. Interestingly, a person who creates exquisite shoes, such as Kelsey, only wears Converse sneakers himself.
