Jordan Henderson Biography

Jordan Henderson is an English footballer who currently serves as the captain of Liverpool Football Club. He is also a key player for the English national team. Henderson was born in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. On July 1, 2008, he signed his first professional contract with Sunderland FC.

Loan to Coventry City

In January 2009, Henderson was loaned to Coventry City for a month. He made his debut for the team in a match against Derby County. On February 23, he scored his first professional goal in a game against Norwich City. However, his loan was not extended until the end of the season, and he returned to Sunderland on April 8 due to an injury.

Return to Sunderland

In his first season back with the club, Henderson played mainly in the starting lineup, appearing in 33 matches and scoring one goal. He truly shined in the following season, playing in 37 out of 38 games. On April 23, 2011, Henderson scored two goals against Wigan Athletic, helping Sunderland win 4-2 and break a streak of nine consecutive winless matches.

Move to Liverpool

In early July, reports surfaced that Liverpool was interested in acquiring Henderson. On June 9, 2011, a deal was reached between Sunderland and Liverpool for a transfer fee of £16 million. Henderson scored his first goal for Liverpool on August 27, 2011, in a match against Bolton Wanderers.

Captaincy and International Career

After Steven Gerrard left Liverpool in the summer of 2015, Henderson was appointed as the captain of the team. His international debut came in 2009 in a match between the England and Czech Republic under-19 teams. In 2010, Henderson made his debut for the England under-21 team, scoring his first international goal against Romania.

On November 11, 2010, Henderson was called up to the senior England national team for a friendly match against France on November 17, 2010. He started the game in midfield alongside Gerrard.

Henderson was also called up to the England national team for Euro 2012, replacing the injured Frank Lampard.
