José Manuel Calderón Navarro is a former Spanish professional basketball player who played for Unicaja Málaga and the Spain national team.

Early Career and Rising Stardom

Calderón's basketball journey began with youth championships in Spain. In 1995, he claimed the Spanish Junior Championship title. His professional career took off in 1996 when he played a pivotal role in TAU's triumph in the FIBA Saporta Cup. Throughout his years with TAU, Calderón accumulated a number of accolades, including the Copa del Rey in 1999 and various All-Star selections in the Spanish ACB League.

International Success and Awards

Calderón's international debut came in 1997 with Spain's youth teams. He emerged on the global stage in 2001, earning a bronze medal at the EuroBasket. His international achievements continued in 2003 with a silver medal at the EuroBasket and the pinnacle of his career in 2006 when he helped Spain win the FIBA World Championship, earning the title of "Mr. Europe" from SuperBasket magazine.

Italian Dominance at Benetton

Calderón's move to Benetton Treviso in 2002 marked a period of dominance in the Italian Lega A. He claimed consecutive Italian SuperCup and Championship titles in 2001 and 2002, and won the first of three Italian Cups in 2003. In the same year, Calderón was included in the EuroLeague All-First Team.

Return to Spain and Final Triumphs

In 2005, Calderón returned to Spain with Unicaja Málaga. He promptly led the team to victory in the Copa del Rey and was named MVP. The following year, Unicaja claimed the Spanish Championship and Calderón was again honored as MVP.

Olympic and European Glory

Calderón's international career continued to flourish. He secured a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and capped off his incredible run with a European Championship title in 2009.
