Biography of Ryan Anderson

Ryan Anderson is an American professional basketball player currently playing for the National Basketball Association (NBA) team, the Houston Rockets. He plays as a power forward. He was drafted by the New Jersey Nets as the 21st pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.

Early Life and Education

Ryan Anderson was born in Sacramento and attended Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills, California. In 2005, he helped the school's basketball team win the second division championship in the state. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a prominent player for the university's basketball team for two seasons. In the 2007/2008 season, he averaged 21.6 points per game and became the leading scorer in the Pacific-10 Conference.

NBA Career

In 2008, Anderson was selected as the 21st pick by the New Jersey Nets in the NBA Draft. In his rookie season, he played 66 games (30 as a starter), averaging 7.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He also showcased his ability to make three-point shots. On June 25, 2009, Anderson was traded by the Nets, along with Vince Carter, to the Orlando Magic in exchange for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie, and Courtney Lee. On October 27, 2009, the Magic extended Anderson's contract until the end of the 2010/2011 season. In the 2009/2010 season, he started as a power forward for the Magic, temporarily replacing the suspended Rashard Lewis.

In the 2011/2012 season, Anderson was named the NBA's Most Improved Player. On July 11, 2012, he was traded to the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Gustavo Ayon. On July 9, 2016, Anderson signed a contract with the Houston Rockets.

Personal Life

Ryan Anderson was previously in a de facto relationship with television personality Gia Allemand (1983–2013), who tragically died on August 14, 2013, following a suicide attempt.
