José de Jesús Corona Rodríguez, Mexican Goalkeeper
Early CareerJosé Corona began his professional career with Atlas in 2002. In two years with the club, he made 47 appearances. In 2004, he joined Estudiantes Tecos, where he remained for five seasons, accumulating 174 games.
Move to Cruz Azul
On June 16, 2009, Corona signed a three-year contract with Cruz Azul. In the same year, he helped the team reach the finals of the Apertura 2009 tournament.
International Career
Corona's international debut came in 2004. He played his first match for the Mexican national team on April 27, 2005, in a 1-1 draw against Poland. In 2005, he made an appearance in the opening match of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, but did not play in subsequent games after Mexico's loss to South Africa.
Missed Opportunities
Despite being included in Mexico's squad for the 2006 World Cup, Corona did not see any playing time. In 2007, he was called up as the third goalkeeper for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Scandals and Controversies
Corona was dismissed from the national team in 2010 for a bar fight. In 2011, a similar incident following a match against Monarcas Morelia resulted in his removal from the team and replacement by Monterrey goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco.
Legacy
Despite these setbacks, Corona remained a prominent figure in Mexican football. He won an Olympic gold medal in 2012 and continued to play for Cruz Azul and the national team, making him one of the most capped goalkeepers in Mexican history.
