Biography of José Ignacio Castillo

José Ignacio Castillo, also known as "Nacho," is an Argentine football player who plays as a forward. He arrived in Italy in 2001 and joined the Serie D club, Brindisi. Castillo played a key role in the team's promotion to Serie C2, scoring 15 goals in 23 matches. However, his dream of playing professional football was cut short as he was unable to obtain a European Union passport. As a result, Castillo decided to stay in Serie D and joined Nardo, where he scored 17 goals.

In 2003, the Argentine forward moved to Vigor Lamezia, where he scored 24 goals in 32 matches. The following year, Castillo returned to Apulia and joined ambitious club Gallipoli. Together with the team, he achieved promotion to a higher division, thanks to his 40 goals in 55 matches. At the age of 29, Castillo finally obtained an Italian passport, which allowed him to play in Serie C2 for the 2005/06 season.

In the 2006/07 season, Castillo agreed to join Serie B club Frosinone on loan. However, he struggled to make an impact and often started matches as a substitute, scoring only 5 goals in 30 matches. The following season, he was purchased by newly-promoted Serie B club, Pisa. In his debut match for the club, Castillo scored two goals against Bari, securing a 2-1 victory for his team. By the end of the 2007/08 season, he had scored 21 goals in 40 Serie B games, finishing fifth in the top scorers' table.

In August 2008, Castillo was acquired by Lecce, a club that had returned to Serie A that season. He scored 7 goals in 29 matches for the Giallorossi, making his Serie A debut on August 31, 2008, against Torino. On July 20, 2009, he officially signed with Fiorentina. Castillo made his European debut on December 9, 2009, in a UEFA Champions League group stage match against Liverpool, coming on as a substitute in the 83rd minute for Lorenzo De Silvestri. On January 15, 2010, Castillo transferred to Bari.
