Early Life and EducationBorn in Luanda, Angola, in 1934, Fernao Jose de Sousa embarked on his academic journey at the prestigious University of Coimbra, where he earned a doctorate in law.
Political Career
Minister of JusticeSousa's political career began when he was appointed Minister of Justice of Angola in 1986. During his tenure until 1990, he played a pivotal role in shaping the country's legal and judicial system.
Prime Minister and National Assembly Speaker
In June 1991, Sousa was appointed Prime Minister of Angola, serving until December 1992. He was instrumental in guiding the nation through a period of political and economic transition. Following his departure from the Prime Minister's office, he became Chairman of the National Assembly of Angola from December 1992 to June 1996.
Second Term as Prime Minister
In June 1996, Sousa returned as Prime Minister of Angola, serving until January 1999. During this second term, he continued to oversee Angola's economic and social development, working closely with President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.

Throughout his political career, Sousa remained a loyal member of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), a major political party in the country.
