Early Life and Education

Born in the Upper Volta (modern-day Burkina Faso), the future prime minister's educational journey took him to the military medical school in Dakar, Senegal.

Military Service and Political Beginnings

During World War II, he served in the French armed forces. His political career commenced in 1951 when he was elected to the French National Assembly, serving until 1959 when Upper Volta gained independence.

In the newly independent Upper Volta, he held several ministerial positions:

1954-1955: Deputy State Secretary

1958-1980: Member of the National Assembly

Prime Ministership

In 1978, he became Prime Minister of Upper Volta. His tenure ended abruptly in 1980 when he and President Aboubakar Sangoulé Lamizana were overthrown in a military coup.
