Early Career and NHLJosh Gratton is a Canadian hockey player who currently plays as a forward for the Astana Barys, a team in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He began his professional career in 2000 and initially played in the lower leagues of North American hockey. Even during this time, Gratton gained a reputation as one of the most formidable enforcers in overseas hockey. On July 27, 2004, he signed his first contract with an NHL team, the Philadelphia Flyers. However, on March 9, 2006, Gratton was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Denis Gauthier. He also spent time in the systems of the New York Rangers and Nashville Predators but did not play a single game for either team. On October 30, 2008, Gratton returned to the Philadelphia Flyers.
Later Career and Achievements
On July 30, 2009, Gratton signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Thrashers. However, he did not get a chance to play in the NHL and on January 8, 2010, he was loaned to the Chekhov Vityaz in Russia. During his time there, he played only 35 games over two seasons, accumulating 12 points (7+5) and 282 penalty minutes. On May 17, 2011, Gratton signed an agreement with the Astana Barys.
