Biography of Juan Carlos Gutierrez
Juan Carlos Gutierrez was born on November 4, 1953, in Havana. According to his official biography, "his parents left Cuba in 1960 when he was 6 years old." Ironically, an American citizen of Cuban descent has been appointed as the new United States Trade Minister at a time when his former homeland is still subject to American trade sanctions.
Early Life and Family
Carlos Gutierrez was born on November 4, 1953, in Havana, Cuba. His official biography states that "his parents left Cuba in 1960 when he was 6 years old." However, informed sources have revealed that they did not have to flee the Island of Freedom. The Gutierrez family, who were quite wealthy, vacationed in Florida, USA, in 1960, a year after the Cuban Revolution. They simply decided not to return and settled in Miami.
Education and Career
Carlos completed his studies in business management at the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico. In 1975, he joined the food company "Kellogg" and spent several years working at its branch in Mexico. Initially, his job involved distributing corn and oat flakes to grocery stores. Interestingly, this episode is also omitted from his official biography. Over the next 15 years, Gutierrez rose through the ranks and eventually became the company's CEO.
Appointment as US Trade Minister
When introducing the new minister, President George Bush emphasized that "Gutierrez knows how to grow and develop businesses, creating new jobs." Despite his Cuban roots, Gutierrez had a successful career in the American business world.
