Early Life and Career
Juanjo was born in Murcia, Spain, and began his football career at the local club Inteke.
Breakthrough at ElPozo Murcia
After a brief return to Inteke, Juanjo joined ElPozo Murcia, a more prestigious club from his hometown. He initially struggled to break into the starting lineup, but after another season at Inteke, he was given another chance and seized it. Juanjo quickly became the team's first-choice goalkeeper and helped them win numerous trophies, including four Spanish league titles, two Spanish cups, and two Spanish Super Cups. In the 2007/08 season, ElPozo reached the final of the UEFA Futsal Cup, where they lost on penalties to Russian club VIZ-Sinara. During his time at Murcia, Juanjo was recognized as the league's best goalkeeper three times: in the seasons 2005/06, 2008/09, and 2009/10.
Move to Inter Movistar
In 2010, Juanjo joined Inter Movistar, the main rivals of his former club ElPozo Murcia.
International Career
Juanjo has been a key member of the Spanish national futsal team, winning two European Championships (2007 and 2010) and finishing as a finalist in the 2008 World Cup. He has often served as a backup to Luis Amado, but has also frequently been called upon to start in goal for his country.
