Early Life and EducationCharles Pierre Marie Busser was born into a musical family in Paris, France, on October 28, 1868. His passion for music was evident from a young age, and he began studying violin at the age of seven.
Paris Conservatory and Teaching Career
In 1892, Busser graduated from the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris, where he had studied violin under the renowned Jules Garcin. Shortly after graduating, he embarked on a successful career as a concert violinist.
In 1921, Busser returned to the Conservatoire as a professor of violin. Over the next two decades, he taught countless talented students, including Michel Auclair, Manuel Rosenthal, Jean Martinon, Eric Kunwald, Michel Schwalbe, and Devi Erlih.
Denyse Soriano and the Holocaust
During the German occupation of France during World War II, Busser and his wife, Denyse Soriano, played a courageous role in protecting their Jewish students. They hid these students in their home in Bourron-Marlotte, near Fontainebleau.
After the war, Soriano received the Righteous Among the Nations Medal from the Yad Vashem Institute in Jerusalem for her heroic efforts in saving Jews during the Holocaust.
Legacy
Charles Busser passed away on November 20, 1935, leaving behind a significant legacy as a violinist, teacher, and humanitarian. He was remembered not only for his musical abilities but also for his compassion and unwavering commitment to his students.
