Back-to-Back MillionsQuebec retiree Jules Paran has defied all odds, becoming one of the rare individuals to win a million-dollar lottery jackpot twice. In the span of nine years, Paran has claimed two $1 million prizes, first in 2008 and again in 2017. "I am well aware of how improbable it is to win once," Paran remarked, "but to win twice in such a relatively short period of time, that is really something."
Claiming the Crown
Paran recently visited Loto-Québec's Quebec City office to collect a check for $1,222,069. This hefty sum represented the jackpot in the Crown of Egypt online lottery game. Paran's previous million-dollar win came in 2008 when he triumphed in the 6/49 lottery. The odds of winning that jackpot stood at approximately one in 14 million.
A Game of Chance
As the saying goes, "The only sure thing about a lottery is that you won't win." Others quip, "Your chances of dying on the way to buy a lottery ticket are higher than your chances of winning it." Yet, for Paran, a $3.20 ticket purchased online from Loto-Québec proved to be a game-changer. The odds of his lucky win in the Crown of Egypt lottery were estimated at one in 23,437,500.
A Lucky Star
"I don't know who did it," Paran mused, hinting at some higher power. "Was I born under a lucky star?" The Quebec millionaire admitted to enjoying lottery games, though he does not consider himself an impulsive gambler. Along with his newfound hobby, Paran enjoys spending time outdoors, fishing, and hunting.
Continuing to Play
Despite his remarkable luck, Paran vowed to continue playing lotteries, maintaining his usual wager. "I'm retired, and this helps me pass the time," he explained. "As in any game of chance, sometimes you win and sometimes, unfortunately, you leave with less than you came with."
Future Plans
Living alone and childless, Paran plans to demolish his current home and construct a new one. "It will be a modest house," the Quebec native explained. "I'm not going to build a castle, but something more modern." Paran also hinted at a possible trip to Las Vegas in his future.
