Biography of Julian Anderson
British composer and music educator, Julian Anderson, has had a distinguished career in the field of music. He studied at Westminster School and later continued his education at the Royal College of Music, where he was mentored by the renowned English composer and educator, John Lambert. Anderson also had the opportunity to work with other notable British educators such as Alexander Goehr at Cambridge University and Tristan Murail in Paris. He attended courses by Olivier Messiaen, Per Nørgård, and György Ligeti.
Teaching and Career
From 2000 to 2004, Anderson served as the Head of Composition at the Royal College of Music, and from 2004 to 2007, he was a professor of music at Harvard University. Currently, he teaches composition at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Throughout his career, Anderson has been associated with various orchestras, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra from 2001 to 2005 and The Cleveland Orchestra from 2005 to 2007. In 2010-2011, he was the Artistic Director of the 'Music of Today' concert series in London, featuring the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In the autumn of 2011, Julian Anderson was officially announced as the composer-in-residence at Wigmore Hall.
Notable Works
Anderson has received critical acclaim for his compositions, with some of his most famous works including "Diptych for Orchestra" (1990) and "Khorovod" (1994). In 1997, he composed "The Crazed Moon" and "Poetry Nearing Silence," followed by "The Stations of the Sun" in the following year. Among his recent works are "Alleluia" for choir and orchestra and "Alhambra Fantasy." All of Anderson's compositions are exclusively published by Faber Music.
