Early Life and Career
Jacqueline Wells, born on August 30, 1914, in Denver, Colorado, began her acting career under her birth name. She briefly performed under the stage name Diane Duval before landing a contract with Warner Bros. in 1941.
Adoption of the Stage Name Julie Bishop
Warner Bros. requested that Wells change her name due to its association with lower-budget films. She chose Julie Bishopas her new stage name, preserving her initials "J.B." and maintaining a connection to her former married name, Julie Brooks.
Film Career with Warner Bros.
As Julie Bishop, she appeared in 16 films with Warner Bros., most notably in the Academy Award-winning comedy "Princess O'Rourke" (1943), where she met her second husband, Clarence Shoop. Bishop also starred in "The North Atlantic" (1943) and "Rhapsody in Blue" (1945).
Later Career and Personal Life
After leaving Warner Bros., Bishop continued her acting career, playing Pearl in "The Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949) with John Wayne. She appeared alongside Wayne again in "The High and the Mighty" (1954) and gave birth to a daughter and a son, who became a pilot like his father. Julie Bishop passed away on August 30, 2001, on her 87th birthday.
