Childhood Career Beginnings
Justin spent much of his childhood in front of the camera. At the tender age of five, he starred in his first commercial for "Folgers" coffee. He went on to appear in over 20 national commercials, earning him the nickname "The Commercial Kid."
Television Breakthrough
In 1994, at the age of eight, Justin made his television debut in a minor role on "The Golden Palace" with Drew Carey. The following year, he landed his breakout role in the sitcom "Unhappily Ever After." For five seasons (1995-1999), Justin portrayed Ross Malloy alongside Geoffrey Pierson, Kevin Connolly, and Nikki Cox.
Film Debut
Justin Berfield made his feature film debut in 1998 as Timmy Blair in Fred Olen Ray's lighthearted family comedy "Mom, Can I Keep Her?" He auditioned for the role of Anakin Skywalker in the iconic sci-fi film "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" in 1999 but was ultimately passed over for Jake Lloyd.
"Malcolm in the Middle" Fame
Despite appearing in numerous films throughout his career, Justin is best known for his role as Reese, the second-oldest sibling in the raucous family sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle." He won two YoungStar Awards for his performance, in 2000 and 2003. Justin appeared in 151 episodes of "Malcolm in the Middle" and 100 episodes of "Unhappily Ever After," making him the youngest actor in television history to star in over 100 episodes of two different series.
Voice Acting and Philanthropy
In 2001, Justin Berfield provided the voice of Gill the Monster in Disney's animated series "Kim Possible." That same year, he became a National Youth Ambassador for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, a role he held for three years. Justin is also an active supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and recently joined the charitable organization The Virgin Group.
Reality Television and Business Ventures
In December 2004, J2TV announced a reality show called "Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive." The premise was for children of famous actors and musicians to give up their lavish lifestyles and live a simple life on a Colorado cattle ranch. For this project, Justin served as a writer and executive producer for the first time.
In 2006, Justin announced that he would continue acting in "Malcolm in the Middle" but would also pursue other business ventures. By this time, Berfield had already founded his own production company, Escobar. He had also served as a producer on the 2005 musical comedy "Romance & Cigarettes." In 2007, Justin's first major production, "Blonde Ambition" starring Jessica Simpson, was released. As of 2010, he is producing two feature films: "Who is Doris Payne?" with Halle Berry and "The Secret Six" with Jessica Alba, J.K. Simmons, and Chris Messina.
