Casey Bellamy: Trailblazing Defender
Early Career and HonorsCasey Bellamy was born on April 22, 1987, in Westfield, Massachusetts. She excelled in ice hockey, field hockey, and softball at Berkshire School, where she was named Female Athlete of the Year in both her junior and senior years. As a defenseman, she earned first-team All-New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) honors and finished her youth hockey career with an impressive 30 goals and 80 assists.
University of New Hampshire
At the University of New Hampshire, Bellamy established herself as one of the most decorated players in program history. She ranks third all-time in career points among defensemen. During her freshman year, she led the team in scoring with 8 goals and ranked second in assists (16) for 24 total points. In her sophomore season, she finished second among blue-liners and 10th nationally among defensemen in scoring with 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists).
National and International Success
Bellamy's exceptional offensive skills continued to shine in her junior and senior years. In 2007-2008, she became a force to be reckoned with, racking up 26 career points (3 goals, 23 assists) and ranking 10th nationally in scoring among defensemen. The following season, she finished fourth in the NCAA with 28 points (6 goals, 22 assists) in 35 games. Her accomplishments earned her a spot on the RBK All-America Team.
Since 2006, Bellamy has also represented the United States on numerous national and international teams. She has been a member of the US Women's Under-22 Select Team twice and has competed in the Four Nations Cup. She was part of the silver medal-winning teams at the IIHF Women's World Championships in 2008 and 2009. In 2009, she was named one of Team USA's Top Three Players.
Personal Life and Legacy
Bellamy graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Women's Studies. She has two brothers, Robbie and Corey, and one sister, Lindsey. Her brother Robbie is also a hockey player, who played for the University of Maine and currently plays for the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Bellamy's contributions to women's hockey have been immense. She is an inspiration to young athletes and has paved the way for future generations of defensemen. Her accomplishments have made her a legend in the sport, and she will continue to be a force to be reckoned with on the ice.
