Biography of Karen Karapetyan

Karen Sarksovich Karapetyan (Armenian: Կարեն Սարգսի Կարապետյան) was born on March 2, 1961, in the village of Karakilisa, Kalinin District. He is an Armenian statesman who served as the Mayor of Yerevan from December 17, 2010. Karapetyan graduated from the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute in 1982 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Early Career

After completing his education, Karapetyan worked as a teacher in the Kalinin District from 1982 to 1983. He then served as an engineer and senior engineer in the anti-hail brigade from 1983 to 1985. In 1985, he became the head and secretary of the rural department of the Tashir District Committee of the Communist Party, and later worked as an instructor for the Tashir District Committee.

Business and Political Career

In 1990, Karapetyan became the CEO of the trading and industrial enterprise "SIK" in Rostov-on-Don. He held this position until 1993 when he became the director of the Tashir Enamelware Plant. He later became the chairman of the board of the same company. During this time, he also served as a deputy in parliament from 1995 to 1999, where he was a member of the permanent committee on state and legal issues and the parliamentary group "Reforms". From 1999 to 2003, he continued his work as a deputy in parliament and was a member of the permanent committee on financial, credit, budgetary, and economic issues. He also served as the secretary of the parliamentary group "Stability" and later "People's Deputy".

In 2003, Karapetyan was re-elected as a deputy in parliament and served as the head of the parliamentary group "People's Deputy" and a member of the permanent committee on financial, credit, budgetary, and economic issues. On May 12, 2007, he was elected as a deputy in parliament once again, and he became the leader of the "Republican Party of Armenia" faction.

Mayor of Yerevan

On December 17, 2010, Karen Karapetyan was appointed as the Mayor of Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia. He served in this position for several years, overseeing the development and management of the city.
