Early Life and Education
The Armenian diplomat was born in Armenia. In 1983, they commenced their studies in Eastern Studies at Yerevan State University, graduating in 1988. Their pursuit of diplomatic knowledge continued at the Moscow Diplomatic Academy of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1988 to 1991.
Diplomatic Career Begins
1991 marked the beginning of the diplomat's tenure in the Political-Military Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. From 1992 to 1994, they served as Armenia's Envoy to Russia.
Advancement Within the Ministry
In 1994, the diplomat assumed the role of Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. This position was held until 1996, when they were appointed as the Permanent Representative and later Ambassador of Armenia to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva.
Global Diplomacy
During their tenure in Geneva, the diplomat held significant positions, including Vice-President of the World Conference against Racism and Racial Discrimination (Durban) and Chair of the 8th Meeting of States Parties to the UN Convention against Torture. They also led the Armenian delegation to numerous international forums and conferences.
Advisor and Diplomatic Assignments
From 2002 to 2005, the diplomat returned to Armenia as an Advisor to the Foreign Minister. They participated in the Intergovernmental Commission between Armenia and the United States and served on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Commission for Ranking and Qualification.
In 2005, they were appointed as Armenia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Iran. They held this position until 2009, during which time they joined the Intergovernmental Commission between Armenia and Iran in 2006.
Return to the UN and Deputy Minister Role
From 2009 to 2014, the diplomat represented Armenia as Permanent Representative to the UN. Their extensive diplomatic experience culminated in 2014 with their appointment as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
