Kate McKinnon, born Katherine McKinnon Berthold on January 6, 1984, in Sea Cliff, New York, is an American comedian and actress. She gained fame for her participation in comedy sketches on the television shows "Saturday Night Live" and "The Big Gay Sketch Show." McKinnon is known for her remarkable impersonations of celebrities and her unique comedic characters. She has parodied famous figures such as pop singer Justin Bieber, television host Ellen DeGeneres, and politician Hillary Clinton.

Early Life and Education
Kate McKinnon grew up in Sea Cliff, New York, where she was born to Laura Campbell, an adult educator, and Michael Thomas, an architect who passed away when she was 18. During her childhood, McKinnon played the piano, cello, and guitar. She graduated from North Shore High School in 2002 and attended Columbia University, where she studied theater arts. McKinnon was one of the founders of the comedy group "Tea Party" during her college years, specializing in comedic musical improvisation. She was also a member of the student comedy group "Prangstgrüp," known for its elaborate pranks.

Early Career
In 2007, McKinnon joined the original cast of the show "The Big Gay Sketch Show" on Logo TV, where she remained for three seasons. Starting in 2008, she regularly performed in live sketch shows at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. McKinnon also lent her voice to characters in animated series such as "The Venture Bros.," "Robotomy," and "Ugly Americans." In 2016, McKinnon gained significant recognition for her role as Jillian Holtzmann in the reboot of "Ghostbusters," alongside Melissa McCarthy.
