British Powerhouse: Catherine Bartlett
Catherine Bartlett, formerly a hairdresser, has traded her scissors and curling iron for trucks and barbells. After developing a passion for strength sports, she has achieved remarkable success in a short period while still prioritizing her two children.

From Hair to Heavy Lifting
Bartlett worked as a hairdresser before embarking on a radical career change three years ago. She took up weightlifting and has since won two major titles, demonstrated her extraordinary ability to lift and move cars and trucks, and was crowned Britain's Strongest Woman.

Balancing Family and Sport
Despite her dedication to heavy lifting, Bartlett remains committed to her family. She is the mother of Eilise and Carson, aged 12 and 5 respectively. She also makes time for her group work with other strong women, encouraging newcomers to the sport.

The Power of Inspiration
Bartlett's interest in strength sports began with a television program about strongman competitions. Intrigued by the feats of strength, she visited a gym and was encouraged by a fellow female lifter, who witnessed her impressive weightlifting capabilities.

International Recognition
Bartlett now competes in women's strongman events, showcasing her exceptional strength. She has competed at the British, European, and international levels. These events typically consist of five disciplines, timed or measured by repetitions.
Mental Strength
Bartlett emphasizes the importance of mental focus, striving to enter a "flow state" where she can perform at her best. This allows her to move vehicles and lift weights ranging from 154 lbs to 377 lbs, an impressive feat for a woman of her size.
Training and Competitions
Within three years of training, Bartlett has won numerous awards and two major competitions. She identifies truck pulling as the most challenging event, as it requires immense strength and is more difficult to train for.
International Perspective
International competitions in America have prompted Bartlett to reassess British standards in strength sports. She believes British athletes have significant ground to gain on their American counterparts.
Family Support
Balancing intense training with family life requires support, which Bartlett receives from her children and other family members. Her children enjoy watching her train and occasionally join her in the gym. Eilise aspires to follow in her mother's footsteps as a strongwoman.
Nutrition and Role Models
Bartlett faces dietary challenges, particularly when eating with her children. While she doesn't restrict herself, she is mindful of setting a positive example.
Facing Criticism
Not everyone respects Bartlett's muscular physique, and she sometimes encounters aggressive comments. However, she finds motivation in the negativity, recognizing that her strength is a source of empowerment.
Shifting Perspectives
Bartlett often notices the surprise on men's faces as she trains in the gym, lifting weights larger than theirs. She challenges societal stereotypes about women and believes that strength is not exclusive to men.
Inspiring Others
Bartlett enjoys witnessing the reactions of men who underestimate her strength. She hopes to inspire others, especially women, to embrace their physical potential.
