Katherine Copeland is a British rower who specializes in lightweight women's double sculls. She was born on December 1, 1990, in Ashington, a small town in Northumberland, England. Standing at 172 cm tall and weighing 59 kg, Copeland began her rowing career at the age of 14.

Early Career and Education

Copeland started her training at the Yarm School Boat Club under the guidance of coaches Andy Clark and James Harris. Yarm School is known for producing promising British junior rowers in recent years. She achieved notable success at the Coupe de la Jeunesse, winning a gold medal in the women's quadruple sculls in 2007 and a gold medal in the single sculls in 2008.

Current Career

Currently, Copeland trains at the Tees Rowing Club in Stockton-on-Tees. Alongside her rowing career, she works as a teacher and leads after-school sessions for children with autism, supported by the Three Wings Trust. In her free time, Copeland enjoys watching movies, listening to music, and spending time with friends.

Olympic Success

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Copeland, paired with Sophie Hosking, won a gold medal in the lightweight women's double sculls event, representing Great Britain. They triumphed over their Chinese opponents, securing the title of Olympic champions. The bronze medal went to the Greek team, who closely trailed the Chinese.

World Cup Performances

Copeland and Hosking also competed together in the World Cup. They won a silver medal in Belgrade, narrowly missing out on gold to Greece by less than a second. In Lucerne, they finished 5th, and in Munich, they finished 4th.

In Munich, at the first stage of the 2011 World Cup, Copeland won a silver medal in the lightweight women's single sculls. Greece claimed gold, while Switzerland took home the bronze. She also achieved second place in the single sculls at the British qualifying championships held at Dorney Lake.

Additionally, Copeland participated in the World Rowing U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus, in 2010, finishing 6th in the women's double sculls. In 2009, she placed 4th in the single sculls at the same championship. Earlier that year, she competed in the Australian Youth Olympic Festival, winning gold in the quadruple sculls, bronze in the double sculls, and finishing 4th in the eight.
