Katie Piper's ex-boyfriend, 33-year-old Daniel Lynch, orchestrated the attack. He not only verbally abused and threatened her, but also physically assaulted and raped her. He then convinced another man named Stephen Sylvester to throw sulfuric acid on Katie's face. The attack, which took place on March 31, 2008, left Katie with severe injuries. She lost her eyelids, a significant portion of her nose, and part of her ear. Her facial skin was severely damaged, revealing her skull. She spent seven weeks in the hospital and underwent numerous surgeries to try and reconstruct her face.

Despite the physical and emotional trauma she endured, Katie Piper remained resilient. She lost 38 kilograms and had to be fed through a catheter for a period of time. She wore a special plastic mask for two years, for 23 hours a day, to minimize scarring. Katie's journey to recovery was not easy, but she remained determined to rebuild her life.

In her book "Start Your Day With Katie," she shares 365 affirmations that helped her stay positive during her recovery. Katie even had the honor of being one of the torchbearers for the Paralympic Games, symbolizing that anything is possible, no matter the obstacles one faces.
