Biography of Melody Gersbach

Melody Adelheit Manuel Gersbach, the second of three siblings, was born on November 18, 1985, in Daraga, Albay. She grew up in Angeles City, Pampanga. Her father, Wolfgang Gersbach, is German, and her mother, Marina Manuel, is Filipina. Melody graduated from the University of Asia and the Pacific and went on to manage her family's restaurant business in the Bicol region.

Pageant Success

In March 2009, at the age of 23, Gersbach won the title of "Binibining Pilipinas International" (Miss Philippines International). She became the second representative from the Bicol region to win this coveted crown, following Albayanon de la Paz Sandico in 1999. Gersbach represented the Philippines at the 40th Miss International pageant in November 2009 in Macau, China, where she made it to the top 15 semi-finalists.

A Tragic Accident

Gersbach was known not only for her beauty pageant success but also for her involvement in the fashion industry. She was set to appear on television as the main diva of popular Filipino actor Aga Muhlach when her life was tragically cut short by a car accident. On August 21, 2010, around 11 a.m., Gersbach died in a collision between the Toyota Innova she was traveling in and a passenger bus in Bula. The police reported that the bus, trying to avoid a collision with a tricycle/motorcycle, swerved onto the opposite lane and crashed into Gersbach's car. The Toyota Innova was severely damaged, resulting in Gersbach's death, as well as the death of her driver, Santos Ramos Jr., and makeup artist, Alden Orense. Ronald Lita, a friend of Gersbach, was the sole survivor among the car's occupants. Several passengers on the bus also suffered injuries. At the time of the tragedy, Gersbach was heading to a meeting for the "Miss Bicolandia 2010" pageant executive committee in Naga City.

Remembering Melody Gersbach

Melody Gersbach was laid to rest in Angeles City, where she spent her childhood and youth. Her family and friends, including Venus Raj, the fourth runner-up in the Miss Universe 2010 pageant, attended the funeral service. Stella Marquez-Araneta, the chairperson of "Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc." responsible for organizing the Miss Philippines pageant, expressed her deepest condolences and prayers to Gersbach's family and friends. The untimely and tragic death of Melody Gersbach deeply saddened everyone in the organization, and her departure left a void not only in their hearts but also in the hearts of those who knew her. Wilson Fontillas, the bus driver deemed responsible for Gersbach's death, was detained pending criminal charges against him.
