KAZKA: Ukrainian Pop Sensation From Song to Shazam Success

Early Beginnings and Rise to Fame

Formed in 2017, the Ukrainian pop band KAZKA, comprising vocalist Oleksandra Zaritska, flutist Dmytro Mazuryak, and multi-instrumentalist Mykyta Budash, quickly emerged as a Ukrainian sensation. Their first single, "Sviata," garnered instant success and captivated radio stations throughout the country. The debut music video, directed by Serhiy Tkachenko, featured minimalist aesthetics and ancient Slavic symbols, adding a mystical touch.

X-Factor Participation and Debut Album

In 2017, KAZKA participated in the eighth season of the Ukrainian version of "X-Factor" with their original track "Sviata." Although they were eliminated during the fifth live show, the band's performance marked a significant milestone in their career. Shortly after, they released their second single, "Dyva," which topped the iTunes chart on its debut day. By the end of the year, Karabas Live recognized them as "Best Debut of the Year."

In January 2018, Dmytro Mazuryak joined KAZKA, bringing his expertise in playing over thirty wind instruments. The band's debut album, "KARMA," dropped in April 2018, featuring a mix of new compositions and covers. Its release was followed by their first solo concert, where they presented the album live.

International Recognition and Record-Breaking Success

KAZKA's single "Dyva" earned them recognition as "Best Song by a Pop Group" and "Best Debut" by radio station Strana FM. They became the first Ukrainian-language band to enter the prestigious Global Shazam Top 10 chart. Their music videos achieved record-breaking views on YouTube, showcasing their popularity. The band received multiple "Breakthrough of the Year" awards, and their song "Plachala" was deemed "Hit of the Year" by Apple Music. Their music topped charts in over ten countries, including Ukraine, Latvia, Bulgaria, and the United States.

Eurovision Journey and Beyond

In 2019, KAZKA participated in the national selection for Eurovision with their first English-language single, "Apart." Despite placing third, they were offered to represent Ukraine at the contest following the withdrawal of the original winners. However, the band declined the offer, citing their mission to unite people through music rather than contribute to political tension.
