Early Life
Kellan Christopher Lutz was born on March 15, 1985, in Dickinson, North Dakota, USA to Bradley and Karla Lutz. The fourth of seven children, he has six brothers - Brandon, Tanner, David, Daniel, Brad, and Chris - and one sister, Brittany. Lutz grew up in the Midwest and Arizona, and attended Horizon High School in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Career Beginnings
Although acting had always appealed to Lutz, he did not initially pursue it as a career. After high school, he enrolled at Chapman University in Orange, California, to study chemical engineering. However, Lutz left university to focus on acting. He worked as a model and appeared in the reality television show "Model Citizens" (2004) and an episode of the soap opera "The Bold and the Beautiful" (2004).
Breakthrough and "Twilight"
Lutz landed small roles in the films "Stick It" (2006) and "Accepted" (2006). In 2007, he appeared in episodes of "CSI: NY" and "Heroes" and starred in the horror film "Nightmare on Elm Street." His breakthrough came in 2008 when he joined the cast of the HBO miniseries "Generation Kill."
Later that year, Lutz portrayed vampire Emmett Cullen in the romantic fantasy film "Twilight." The film, which starred Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, became a global phenomenon. Lutz reprised the role in the subsequent sequels: "New Moon" (2009), "Eclipse" (2010), "Breaking Dawn: Part 1" (2011), and "Breaking Dawn: Part 2" (2012).
Post-"Twilight" Career
Since the "Twilight" saga, Lutz has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including "War of the Gods" (2011), "The Expendables 3" (2014), "Experimenter" (2015), and "Money" (2016). However, none of these projects have achieved the same level of commercial or critical success as "Twilight."
Awards and Recognition
Lutz has received four Teen Choice Awards (2010-2013) for his role as Emmett Cullen and a Young Hollywood Award (2014) for "Super Superhero" in "Hercules." He was nominated for two Golden Raspberry Awards for "Hercules" but did not win.
Philanthropy
Lutz is actively involved in charity work. He is an ambassador for Saving Innocence, an organization that helps victims of sexual violence. In 2014, GQ magazine named him "Gentleman of the Year" for his work with the organization. Lutz also supports PETA and other animal welfare groups.
Personal Life
Lutz has dated his "Bold and the Beautiful" co-star Kayla Ewell and "90210" co-star AnnaLynne McCord. He began dating Australian model, actress, and dancer Sharni Vinson in 2011. The couple split in 2013. Lutz was later linked to singer and actress Miley Cyrus, but he denied the rumors, stating that they were just close friends.
