Early Life and Career

Kenneth Campbell Stott was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to a teaching family. As a teenager, he joined a local band called "Keyhole," which later evolved into the renowned pop group "Bay City Rollers." Stott briefly attended the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company.

For many years, Stott struggled financially as an actor. To make ends meet, he worked as a traveling salesman, an experience that later proved valuable for his role in "Takin' Over the Asylum."

Theatrical Success

Stott began his acting career primarily in theater. His breakthrough role was in Dominic Behan's "The Folk Singer." He also performed in various BBC productions, including "Secret Army," "King Lear," and "The Singing Detective."

Television Recognition

In the 1990s, Stott began landing significant television roles. He appeared in crime dramas and even portrayed Adolf Hitler in the ITV series "Uncle Adolf." In 2006, he landed the lead role in the detective series "Rebus," based on the works of Ian Rankin. He was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA in 2008 for his portrayal of Tony Hancock in BBC Four's "Hancock and Joan."

Film Roles

On the big screen, Stott has primarily played supporting roles. He appeared as DI McCall in "Shallow Grave" (1994), Ted in "Fever Pitch" (1997), Marius Honorius in "King Arthur" (2004), and a badger in "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" (2008). However, he has also had lead roles, such as in "The Debt Collector" (1999).

Recent Projects

In recent years, Stott has garnered praise for his portrayal of Balin the dwarf in the "Hobbit" film trilogy. He continues to act on stage and has starred in the plays "Art" (1997) and "The God of Carnage" (2008).

Personal Life

Kenneth Stott was once married and has a son from that marriage. He is currently in a relationship with actress Nina Gehl.
