He was the youngest child in the family of the late William Murdoch Morrison, who owned several small grocery stores, the first of which was opened in 1899. Kenneth grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and learned the ropes of the business from a young age.

Kenneth Morrison grew up in Bradford, where he attended Bradford Grammar School. In his free time, he worked in the family business, either in market stalls or quality control of eggs. He was raised by his five older sisters, who played an active role in his upbringing.

After serving in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, Kenneth was demobilized in 1952 due to his father's illness.
