The Smallest Teenager in the World

Hagendra Tapa Magar, a resident of Pokhara, Nepal, made history on his 18th birthday when he was recognized as the smallest and shortest person in the world. The international press covered the event, with the most important guests being doctors and officials from the Guinness World Records.

A Special Birthday

On October 14, 2010, Hagendra received many gifts and kind wishes on his 18th birthday, like most teenagers. However, the highlight of the celebration was the measurement of his height. With a height of 67.08 cm, he became the world's smallest and shortest person. Hagendra expressed his happiness and excitement about the title, stating that he doesn't consider himself small, but rather a big person. He hoped that this recognition would help him and his family secure good housing.

A Record-Breaking Shift

Just five weeks before Hagendra's milestone, the Guinness World Records had recognized Edward 'Nino' Hernandez from Colombia as the shortest person in the world, with a height of approximately 70 cm. However, Edward graciously accepted the news of losing his title, stating that he was proud to have held the record, even if only for a while. He expressed his desire to meet Hagendra in the future.

A Long-Awaited Recognition

Hagendra's parents, Rup Bahadur and Dana Maya Tapa Magar, had wanted to crown their son for several years. However, the Guinness World Records representatives declined their request because Hagendra was still growing. It was only after he stopped growing that the record was officially recognized. Marco Frigatti, the chief record adjudicator, mentioned that Hagendra had been on their radar for some time, but they had to wait until he reached his final height before considering him for the title.

A Unique Individual

Hagendra weighs 5.44 kg and has the body of a three-year-old child. He is a member of a dance troupe and performs when he is not assisting his father at the fruit shop. Observers note that Hagendra thinks and acts in a manner typical of young children. His father, Rup Bahadur, cannot understand why Hagendra stopped growing, especially since his 13-year-old younger brother has a normal height.

The Future Holds Promise

When the media arrived at the Magar household, Hagendra jumped on the table and made tea for the press representatives. He spoke about the changes that would likely occur in his life now that he had achieved his long-awaited title. In 2011, he was expected to receive a special appointment from his government as a goodwill ambassador. Previous titleholders have been able to establish careers in the entertainment industry or other fields and gained global recognition. As predicted by Edward 'Nino' Hernandez, Hagendra's record was eventually broken on June 12, 2011, by Junrey Baluingu from the Philippines, who measured 56 cm in height.
