Birth and Early Life
Khia Chambers, born Kahia Shamon Finch, is an American rapper, hip-hop artist, and record producer. Originally hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Khia's love for music began at a young age. She participated in local talent shows and later pursued tap dancing and bartending. These experiences led her to various encounters with local DJs and producers, which ultimately paved the way for her record deal.
Debut Album: 'Thug Misses'
Khia's debut album, "Thug Misses," was released on April 23, 2002, under Artemis Records. The single "My Neck, My Back (Lick It)" became a major hit, reaching number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 13 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It also featured in the soundtrack of the Fox TV series "Dark Angel." Following the success of the lead single, Khia released "You My Girl" as a non-charting single and "The K-Wang" as the third and final single from the album. By September 2002, "Thug Misses" had sold over 800,000 copies in the US, earning Gold status for Khia's debut release.
'Gangstress' and Collaboration Projects
In the ensuing years, Khia toured extensively. Her second album, "Gangstress," was released in 2006 under her own label, Thug Misses Entertainment (T.M.E. Records). While initial sales were slow, the album gained traction through digital downloads, ultimately selling over 130,000 copies. Khia's involvement extended to writing all the lyrics for "Gangstress," and by this time, she had established herself as the "Queen of the South."
Third Album: 'Nasti Muzik' and Label Dispute
Khia signed with Big Cat Records and completed her third album, "Nasti Muzik," on July 22, 2008. "What They Do" featuring Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane and "Be Your Lady" were released as singles from the album. Despite initial plans for Big Cat Records to handle the album's promotion, Khia announced her separation from the label just three weeks before its release. Alleging unfulfilled commitments and fraudulent accounting, Khia officially ended her partnership with Big Cat. Nonetheless, the album was still released as scheduled.
Forthcoming Album and Future Projects
Khia's fourth album was initially scheduled for release in 2010. Since then, she has continued to release mixtapes and collaborate with other artists. She remains a prominent figure in the music industry, actively promoting her music and engaging with fans through social media.
