Biography of Kim Delaney
Kim Delaney is an American actress known for her work in both film and television. She was born on November 29, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, to Irish immigrants Joan and Jack Delaney. Her mother was a homemaker, while her father was the head of the United Auto Workers company. Delaney grew up in Roxborough with her four brothers and attended the J.W Gallagher Catholic Girls' School, all while working at the renowned modeling agency, Elite.
Early Career
After graduating from school, Kim Delaney moved to New York to pursue a modeling career. Simultaneously, she studied acting under the renowned instructor William Esper. Delaney made her screen debut in the soap opera "All My Children" from 1981 to 1984.
Film and Television
In 1985, Delaney began actively working in film, appearing in movies such as "That Was Then, This is Now" (1985) with Emilio Estevez, "The Delta Force" (1986) with Chuck Norris, and "Some Kind of Wonderful" (1987) with Peter Gallagher. In 1988, she starred in the film "The Drifter," where she appeared nude for the first time. Delaney simultaneously continued her television work, landing a role in the CBS series "Tour of Duty" in 1988, though she had to interrupt filming due to pregnancy.
In 1995, Kim Delaney joined the cast of the well-known series "NYPD Blue." Following that, she appeared in several forgettable television shows and, in 2004, secured a role in the mini-series "10.5." In 2005, she appeared in the sequel "10.5: Apocalypse" as well as in "The O.C." (2005) and "Nightmares and Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King" (2006).
Recent Work
In 2007, Delaney starred in the series "Army Wives" and also served as one of the producers of the project. Kim Delaney has been married twice. Her first husband was actor Charles Grant, and her second husband was actor Joseph Cortese, with whom she had a son named Jack Phillip Cortese in 1990. Additionally, she had a long-standing relationship with producer Alan Barnette, which ended in 2006 after almost a decade. In 2005, Delaney temporarily lost custody of her 15-year-old son due to alcohol-related issues. However, after undergoing treatment and rehabilitation, she regained her parental rights in 2007 and has since been enjoying motherhood.
