Kirsty Duncan is a renowned Canadian politician who has served in various ministerial positions and currently holds the role of Deputy Government House Leader in the House of Commons.

Early Life and Education

Born on October 31, 1966, in Etobicoke, Ontario, Duncan graduated from Etobicoke's Martingrove Collegiate Institute. She pursued higher education at the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo, earning her Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Edinburgh.

Academic Career

Before entering politics, Duncan served as an Associate Professor of Health Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) and an Associate Professor of Geography at the University of Windsor. Her academic contributions extended to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was jointly awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Political Journey

In 2008, Duncan was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Etobicoke North, representing the Liberal Party of Canada. She was sworn in as the Minister of Science in Justin Trudeau's cabinet on November 4, 2015.

Duncan's ministerial responsibilities expanded in 2018 when she was appointed Acting Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities following the resignation of Kent Hehr. She later became the full-fledged Minister of Science and Sport on July 18, 2018.

Deputy Government House Leader

On November 20, 2019, Duncan was appointed Deputy Government House Leader in the House of Commons. In this role, she supports the Government House Leader in managing parliamentary business and ensuring the effective delivery of government agenda.
