Early Life and EducationBorn in Germany, Gerd Buhr established himself as a renowned composer. His academic journey included studying acoustics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earning a doctorate from the Technical University of Berlin in 1981.
Emigration and Teaching
In 1972, Buhr emigrated from East Germany. He went on to teach electronic and computer music at the Technical University of Berlin from 1983 to 1986.
Theatrical Music
Buhr's encounter with director George Tabori in 1983 sparked his interest in composing theatrical music. His notable works in this genre include musical adaptations of works by renowned authors such as E.T.A. Hoffmann, Herman Melville, and Arno Schmidt.
Audiobook Recognition
In 2005, an audiobook of Robert Musil's novel "The Man Without Qualities" featuring Buhr's music was recognized as Germany's best audiobook, winning the Deutschen H?rbuchpreis.
Collaborations and Film Music
Buhr collaborated with Thomas Wilbrandt to create the music for the renowned song "History (repeats itself)," which was featured in the soundtrack of the film "Natural Born Killers." The song was performed by singer Fay Lovsky.
