Vladimir Zvorykin: Pioneer of Metalworking Technology

Born on April 6, 1861, in the city of Murom, Vladimir Zvorykin embarked on a remarkable career in metalworking technology.

Education and Early Career

In 1884, Zvorykin graduated from the Saint Petersburg Technological Institute. From 1885 to 1887, he worked as an engineer in Astrakhan, designing ship mechanisms.

Professorship and Contributions

In 1889, as an adjunct professor, Zvorykin joined the Department of Mechanical Technology at the Kharkov Technological Institute. In 1894, he obtained the rank of full professor. That same year, he published "Course on Flour Milling," a pioneering textbook in its field.

Kyiv Polytechnic Institute

In 1898, Zvorykin became a professor and dean of the Mechanical Department at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. He actively contributed to the Institute's construction commission. In 1904, he assumed the role of Director, but resigned in 1905.

Return to Kyiv and Scientific Research

In 1918, Zvorykin returned to the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, where he continued working until 1926. His research focused on understanding the principles of metal cutting, making him a renowned founder of the science of metal cutting.

Later Years and Legacy

In the early 1920s, Zvorykin welcomed the birth of his son. He passed away in Kyiv on July 7, 1928. His nephew, Vladimir K. Zvorykin, became the legendary inventor of television. Zvorykin's pioneering contributions to metalworking technology continue to inspire engineers and metallurgists to this day.
