Krešimir Lončar: Croatian Basketball Star and Executive
Krešimir Lončar, a former Croatian professional basketball player, is now the Sporting and Scouting Director at s.Oliver Baskets Würzburg in the Basketball Bundesliga.
Playing Career
Standing at 2.10 m (6 ft 10 + 1⁄2 in), Lončar played both power forward and center positions. In July 2008, he joined UNICS Kazan, where he won the Russian Cup and was named MVP in 2009.
In June 2010, Lončar signed with BC Khimki. During his first season, he was selected for the 2011 All-Star Game. Khimki won the VTB United League Championship that year, and Lončar was named the Best Power Forward. He extended his contract with Khimki in 2012.
Lončar moved to Valencia Basket in 2014 and played there for one season. He then joined Alba Berlin in 2015 and s.Oliver Baskets in 2016.
Transition to Management
In June 2020, Lončar announced his retirement from playing and assumed the role of Sporting and Scouting Director at s.Oliver Baskets Würzburg.
Croatian National Team
Lončar represented Croatia in international basketball. He played in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2009 EuroBasket in Poland, where Croatia placed sixth. This qualified them for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey, where Lončar also played.
