Steve Kerr is an American professional basketball player who was known for his exceptional shooting skills and ability to make accurate long-range shots. He was born on September 27, 1965, in Beirut, Lebanon. Kerr's father, Malcolm Kerr, was an American scholar specializing in the Middle East, which led to Kerr spending most of his childhood in Lebanon and other Arab countries.

Kerr attended Cairo American College in Egypt and also studied at various schools in California. However, he did not attract much attention from recruiters as a basketball player due to his average jumping ability and lack of speed. Nevertheless, Kerr played for the University of Arizona basketball team from 1983 to 1988.

In 1986, Kerr was selected to represent the United States in the FIBA Championship in Spain, where the team won the gold medal. Unfortunately, Kerr suffered a knee injury during the tournament and was unable to play for the University of Arizona team in the following season.

After recovering from his injury, Kerr joined the Phoenix Suns in the NBA draft in 1988. However, he was later traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1989. Kerr played for the Cavaliers for three seasons before briefly joining the Orlando Magic in the 1992-1993 season. He then signed a contract with the Chicago Bulls.

In the 1994-1995 season, Kerr played a crucial role in helping the Chicago Bulls reach the playoffs. However, the team was unable to advance to the finals due to the absence of their star player, Michael Jordan. In the following season, Jordan returned to the team, and the Chicago Bulls won the NBA Finals.

In 1997, Kerr scored a game-winning shot in the NBA Finals, helping the Chicago Bulls secure their fifth championship. He also made an impressive three-point shot in the All-Star game that same year. The following year, Kerr missed a three-point shot in the final game of the NBA Finals but managed to pass the ball to Jordan, who made the decisive shot.

In 1998, Kerr was traded to the San Antonio Spurs, where he stayed until the end of his career. He briefly played for the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2001-2002 season. Kerr won four consecutive NBA championships with the San Antonio Spurs, becoming one of only two players in NBA history to achieve this feat without being part of the Boston Celtics franchise.

Throughout his career, Kerr was known as a reliable backup player who could make clutch three-point shots. He announced his retirement after the NBA Finals in 2003.
