Early Life and Political Career
Björn Jónsson was born on a farm in Gautaðalur, northwestern Iceland. A non-partisan politician, he served in the Icelandic Parliament (Althing) from 1893 to 1905 and again from 1908 to 1913.
Prime Minister of Iceland
Björn Jónsson was appointed Prime Minister of Iceland on March 14, 1911, and served until July 24, 1912. His tenure in office marked a period of political stability and economic growth for Iceland.
Family Connections
Björn Jónsson's two brothers, Petur and Steingrímur, were also politicians and members of the Althing. Additionally, Petur served as Minister of Industry in the government of Jón Magnússon from 1920 to 1922. Björn Jónsson was the father-in-law of Sigurður Eggerz, who served as Prime Minister of Iceland from 1914 to 1915 and again from 1922 to 1924.
