Kurt Konrad: A German Social Democrat
Early Life and WorkKurt Konrad was a German politician and a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). Prior to 1939, he worked at a factory in the Saarland.
Political Beginnings
In 1952, Konrad played a key role in the founding of the SPD in the Saarland. He went on to serve three terms as a member of the state parliament (1947-1952, 1955-1957, 1960-1975).
National and European Politics
From 1957 to 1959, Konrad was a member of the European Parliament. In 1959, he was appointed as Minister of the Interior of the Saarland, a position he held until 1961.
