Early Life
Lara Pulver was born on September 1, 1980, in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England. Her father was Jewish, a faith that her mother later converted to. However, her parents divorced when Pulver was 11, and she chose to live with her mother. From a young age, Pulver exhibited a passion for the stage, showcasing her singing, dancing, and acting abilities.
Performing Arts Education
At age 14, Pulver began honing her skills at the National Youth Music Theatre for four years. She also studied dance at the Liz Burville Dance Centre in Bexley. Her talent was recognized when she was accepted into the prestigious Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts in 1997.
Theatre Career
Pulver made her theatrical debut while still in college, performing in West End musicals. She participated in regional theatre productions and was invited to participate in national tours. In 2008, she received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Lucille Frank in "Parade."
Film and Television Breakthrough
Pulver's film and television career began in 2009 when she landed a role as Isabella in "Robin Hood." Her success continued in 2010 with a guest appearance as the fairy Claudine Crane in "True Blood" and a starring role as Chief Erin Watts in the final season of the spy drama "Spooks."
Rise to Fame
Pulver's breakout role came in 2011 when she played Irène Adler in the highly acclaimed TV series "Sherlock." Her performance alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular detective earned her international recognition.
Post-"Sherlock" Career
In the years following "Sherlock," Pulver continued to build upon her success. She played Clarice Orsini in "Da Vinci's Demons" (2013-2015), reprised her role as Adler in "Sherlock" (2014), and starred as Ann Fleming, the wife of James Bond creator Ian Fleming, in "Fleming" (2014).
Personal Life
Pulver has been married twice. Her first marriage to American actor Joshua Dallas lasted from 2007 to 2011. In 2014, she wed actor Raza Jaffrey, and together they have a son named Ozias (born 2017).
